Self-pollinating. Fragrant, yellow, spring blooms mature to edible black berries. Green, lobed foliage turns scarlet in fall. Used in hedging and erosion control. Prefers evenly moist, well-drained soil but tolerates drought or seasonal flooding and poor or clay soils.
